A year at our school
Aboriginal Education
Aboriginal Education is an important part of our school’s commitment to fostering respect, understanding, and inclusion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and perspectives. We aim to ensure that all students gain a deeper appreciation of the rich cultural heritage and contributions of Australia's First Peoples.
Students learn about the diverse and enduring cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including their languages, traditions, stories, and connection to Country. We promote cultural awareness and help build a stronger sense of identity and pride for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Our school incorporates Aboriginal perspectives across the curriculum and provides opportunities for all students to engage with Aboriginal histories. This includes celebrating significant events such as NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Week, participating in cultural activities, and learning from Elders and community members.
Book Week
Book Week is a beloved annual event that celebrates stories, literature, and the joy of reading. It is a special time where we come together to promote a love of books among students of all ages.
During Book Week, students are encouraged to explore a wide variety of books, discover new authors, and share their favourite stories with friends and teachers. The event often features exciting activities such as book fairs, author visits, storytelling sessions, creative writing workshops, and costume parades where students dress up as their favourite book characters.
The goal of Book Week is to inspire a lifelong passion for reading, helping students develop important literacy skills and enrich their imagination. It also provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Australia’s vibrant literary culture, including the notable works honoured through the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book of the Year awards.
Overall, Book Week is more than just a celebration of books; it is a chance for the whole school community to come together, share stories, and foster a love of reading that can last a lifetime.
Community Events
Community events are special occasions organised by our school and/or P&C to foster connection, collaboration, and celebration among students, families, staff, and the wider local community. These events provide opportunities for everyone to come together in a welcoming and inclusive environment to build strong relationships and support networks.
Colour Blast is an exciting and colourful event celebrated at our school, designed to promote fun, fitness, and community spirit. Participants take part in a lively run or walk, during which they are showered with vibrant coloured powders, creating a joyful and festive atmosphere for everyone involved.
The event encourages students, staff, and families to come together to celebrate health, happiness, and active living in a safe and inclusive environment. Colour Blast helps to build a strong sense of community while promoting physical activity in a fun and engaging way.
Commemorate ANZAC Day and Rememberacy Day
Our school respectfully honors both ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day, important national days of remembrance in Australia.
ANZAC Day, held annually on April 25th, commemorates the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who served and sacrificed their lives in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping missions. Originally marking the anniversary of the 1915 Gallipoli landing, Anzac Day honours the bravery, resilience, and mateship of those who fought for our freedom. At our school, we engage students in assemblies, moments of silence, and storytelling to reflect on these values and Australia’s military history.
Remembrance Day, observed on November 11th, marks the end of World War I and honours all Australians who have served in conflicts, particularly those who lost their lives in the line of duty. It is observed at 11:00 am with a moment of silence to remember and pay respect to the fallen. Our school participates in remembrance activities to foster understanding of the importance of peace and the sacrifices made by service members.
Together, these days provide valuable opportunities for students to learn about our history, reflect on the significance of service and sacrifice, and develop a lasting respect for those who have defended our natio
Creative Arts
Creative Arts is an essential part of our school curriculum that encourages students to explore their creativity, develop artistic skills, and express themselves through various art forms. It encompasses a wide range of disciplines including visual arts, music, drama, dance, and media arts.
Through Creative Arts, students learn to think imaginatively, communicate ideas, and appreciate different artistic styles and cultures. This area of learning nurtures critical thinking, collaboration, and confidence, providing opportunities for students to showcase their talents in performances, exhibitions, and projects.
Our school provides a supportive environment where students can experiment with different materials and techniques, develop their artistic abilities, and gain an understanding of the creative process. Creative Arts also plays a vital role in enhancing emotional wellbeing and fostering a love for lifelong learning and cultural appreciation.
By participating in Creative Arts, students build important skills that contribute to their overall development and prepare them for diverse opportunities in the future.
Education Week
Education Week is an annual celebration that recognises and promotes the importance of education in shaping the lives of students and the future of our community. It is a time when schools across the state open their doors to showcase the diverse learning experiences, achievements, and talents of their students.
During Education Week, our school hosts a range of engaging activities and events such as open classrooms, student exhibitions, performances, workshops, and presentations. These activities provide an opportunity for parents, families, and community members to connect with the school, see learning in action, and celebrate the progress and accomplishments of our students.
Education Week highlights the dedication of teachers, support staff, and leaders who work collaboratively to provide high-quality education in a safe and inclusive environment. It also emphasises the role of education in empowering students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to thrive.
By participating in Education Week, our school community reflects on the value of learning and reaffirms its commitment to providing every student with meaningful and rewarding educational experiences.
Mother's and Father's Day
Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are special occasions celebrated at our school to honour and appreciate the love, support, and sacrifices made by mothers, fathers, and parental figures in the lives of our students.
Mother’s Day, celebrated in May, provides a wonderful opportunity for students to express their gratitude and affection for their mums, grandmothers, caregivers, and mother figures. Our school organises various activities such as card-making, gift projects, and special events that encourage students to celebrate the important role mothers play in their families and communities.
Father’s Day, celebrated in September, similarly recognises and celebrates fathers, grandfathers, guardians, and father figures. Through thoughtful activities, performances, and events, students honour the guidance, strength, and encouragement these role models provide.
Both days foster a strong sense of family connection and community within our school. They encourage students to reflect on the importance of family relationships and express appreciation in meaningful and creative ways.
Celebrating Mother’s Day and Father’s Day at our school helps build positive family-school partnerships and acknowledges the vital role families play in the wellbeing and success of our students.
PBL
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a whole-school approach that promotes positive behaviour, respectful relationships, and a supportive learning environment. It is designed to help all students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally by teaching and reinforcing expected behaviours.
At our school, PBL focuses on encouraging students to make positive choices and take responsibility for their actions. Through clear expectations, consistent routines, and positive reinforcement, we create a safe and inclusive environment where every student feels valued and supported.
PBL incorporates teaching students the skills they need to manage their behaviour, solve problems, and interact respectfully with others. Staff, students, and families work together to build a culture of respect, empathy, and cooperation.
By fostering positive behaviour, PBL contributes to improved student engagement, reduced disruptions, and a stronger sense of belonging. It supports the holistic development of students, helping them develop the self-confidence and social skills needed for lifelong success.
Presentation Day
Presentation Day is a special event at our school dedicated to recognising and celebrating the hard work, achievements, and talents of our students throughout the year. It is an occasion where students are formally acknowledged for their academic success, personal growth, and contributions to the school community.
During Presentation Day, awards and certificates are presented across a range of categories including academic excellence, sportsmanship, creativity, leadership, and positive behaviour. This celebration highlights the diverse strengths and efforts of our students, encouraging them to strive for their best and take pride in their accomplishments.
The event also brings together students, families, staff, and community members to share in the joy of the students’ achievements and to reinforce the value our school places on learning, perseverance, and character development.
Presentation Day serves as an inspiring conclusion to the school year, motivating students to continue their learning journey with confidence and enthusiasm.
"As a parent, I couldn't be more grateful for the incredible experience my child has had at this wonderful public school. From the moment we joined the community, we felt embraced by a school culture that truly values every student as an individual. The inclusive environment ensures that all children feel safe, supported, and celebrated for who they are. What stands out most is how the school places students at the heart of everything they do—whether it’s through engaging learning opportunities, personalised support, or fostering kindness and respect among peers.
